Project Description.

The UCD Science project delivers a 230,000sqft transformation of the O’Brien Centre for Science, creating one of Europe’s largest and most advanced science facilities. The redevelopment combines the deep retrofit of approximately 150,000sqft and the new 80,000sqft vertical and horizontal extension of new-build offices, lads and teaching spaces, all designed to BREEAM Excellent standards. The re‑imagined Science Block provides modern laboratories, academic offices, workshops, teaching rooms and collaboration spaces, while the consolidation of facilities improves adjacencies and supports interdisciplinary research.

Delivered under a single‑stage PW‑CF1 contract within a live, fully operational campus, the project encompasses new build, refurbishment, retrofitting and full Cat A/Cat B fit‑out works. It incorporates significant energy upgrades, enhanced environmental performance and full compliance with Public Procurement Regulations and the Capital Works Management Framework. The result is a next‑generation science precinct that strengthens UCD’s long‑term research and teaching capability.
